The Holtab spirit contributes to safer compact secondary substations (CSS)

A flat organisation and ability to express opinions contribute to smarter safety thinking according to Holtab’s technical manager Gordon Gunnarsson.

Holtab’s compact secondary substations (CSS) must be safe and secure for people to work in. Swedish laws and industry standards are followed to ensure the highest possible personal safety. But it takes more than that according to Gunnarsson.

"Getting feedback from those who use our substations is invaluable. They are the experts in what can be improved," he says.

Gunnarsson feels that Holtab’s culture of openness facilitates cooperation. Customers find it easy to express their views to the employees in Tingsryd and thus, there is a thriving constructive discussion.

"Thanks to good cooperation between us and our customers, we create safe substations with smart solutions."

Gunnarsson has worked at Holtab for more than thirty years. He was involved in developing the company’s low-voltage system from scratch. Since then, he has been a member of the SEK, Svensk Elstandard association, which was involved in drafting the new international standard for low-voltage switchgear.

For him, personal safety is something that permeates all work in the company. This development has accelerated in recent years. Customers are becoming more and more skilled at setting requirements, he says.

"It’s not good for a service technician to pull a fuse and say, 'I can do this if I’m careful'. Anyone working at a station from Holtab has to know what applies. Everything must be clearly marked and the product must be easy to understand. Everything is thoroughly tested and checked before delivery," says Technical Manager Gordon Gunnarsson.
